Air and Space Law (D.C.L.)

A research doctorate (D.C.L.) offered by the Institute of Air & Space Law within McGill's Faculty of Law. Candidates, under supervision of a faculty member, complete a small set of required doctoral courses (Theoretical Approaches to Law, Legal Research Methodology, research seminars), pass a comprehensive examination (usually within the first year, no later than end of year two), and produce a substantial original thesis of up to 400 pages contributing to legal scholarship. The degree is awarded at the earliest after three years of residence; the thesis must be submitted within 4 years of completing the residency requirement.

Admission requirements
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Laws degree (or an equivalent law degree from an accredited university). (Stated on the Faculty of Law Eligibility page: 'Candidates for admission to our graduate law programs must possess a Bachelor of Laws degree or an equivalent law degree from an accredited university...' and 'Candidates must hold both a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Master of Laws degree' for DCL specifically.)
Candidates must hold a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree; students enrolled in McGill's LL.M. program may apply to the DCL before completing that degree.
A cumulative grade point average of 3.0/4.0, or its equivalent (upper second class).
Admission decisions to the doctoral programs are always dependent on the availability of a suitable faculty supervisor. condicional
Only applicants demonstrating excellent academic ability will be considered for admission to the D.C.L. program; the Graduate Admissions Committee also weighs factors such as research fit and available supervision.
